Why I'm Running

Meet Candidate

Introduce yourself and why you're running

Michael Eckels Jr. is a resident of the Harford and Cecil County community and a candidate for Maryland State Delegate in District 35A.

He’s running because he’s seen firsthand how rising costs are putting pressure on working families—and how the people we rely on most are being left behind.

A proud graduate of C. Milton Wright High School, Harford Community College, and Towson University, Michael has deep roots in the community that shaped him. Since 2019, he has been active in ministry, serving others and strengthening his commitment to faith, service, and leadership. He is also a dedicated advocate for individuals with disabilities, working to ensure every voice is heard and every person has the opportunity to succeed.

From farmers facing rising feed and equipment costs, to teachers paying out of pocket for classroom supplies, to nurses working long hours while struggling to keep up with bills—Michael believes it’s time to refocus our priorities.

His campaign is centered on one core idea: support the people who support us.

Michael is fighting to lower the cost of living, provide tax relief for working families, and invest directly in the backbone of our community—our farmers, teachers, and nurses. He also supports developing subsidized housing for seniors and vulnerable residents, ensuring everyone has access to a safe and affordable place to call home.

He believes in strengthening local businesses, protecting our land and waterways, and creating jobs through renewable energy—helping lower energy bills while building local wealth and long-term sustainability for our community.

Michael isn’t running as a career politician—he’s running as a neighbor who cares deeply about this community and is ready to get to work.
